Three ways to better serve your needs

At Intermodal we offer clients a seamless, cost effective and environmentally sustainable group of services that is unique in Western Australia.

Under contract to Fremantle Ports, Intermodal Link Services operates the North Quay Rail Terminal, a seven day, 24-hour operation.

Intermodal Link Services is also the operator of the Forrestfield Intermodal Terminal (FIT) in the heart of the industrial area and close to major road networks, domestic and international airports.

Headquartered at the North Quay Rail Terminal, Intermodal operates three daily rail services to our Forrestfield Intermodal Terminal.

Our train service can accommodate up to 90 twenty-foot equivalents (TEU) per one way trip, allowing our trucking partners to better utilise their fleets for ‘just in time’ and ‘last mile’ deliveries.

With capacity for up to 3,000 containers on site, our container services operation is conveniently located at Forrestfield Intermodal Terminal and offers our clients container storage, maintenance, repairs and cleaning services.

Equipped with modern lifting equipment, FIT is the State’s largest inland import/export container park.

Partnering with you for better logistics

At Intermodal we partner with other transport companies, importers and exporters in providing the smart solutions to logistical challenges to and from the Fremantle Port.

What our customers say

Graceful Partnership

When the 110-year-old Grace was looking for a solution to its import and export removal needs from Fremantle Port it found the perfect partner in the Intermodal Group.

Each year, Grace moves more than 500 containers, the majority of which are for people either returning from overseas or heading overseas which has seen business pick-up substantially since the beginning of the year.

“Intermodal have been fantastic to deal with and very well run, especially their booking system.”

Rob says the partnership with Intermodal has solved what was an ongoing logistical headache for the company, resulting in costly overtime charges and wasted trips to and from the port.

How does the Government rail rebate work?

A de-carbon option for everyone

Companies both large and small are challenged with the need to lower their carbon footprint, especially when it comes to transportation and heavy haulage.

Moving bulk goods by rail, whether it be short or long haul, is proven to be more carbon efficient and sustainable than transportation by road.

According to the German Environmental agency, rail freight produces six times less CO2 than a truck. The agency estimates that an average freight train emits around 18 grams of carbon dioxide per tonne-kilometre, while the emissions of an average truck were much higher at about 112 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

The environmental benefits of rail freight are only expected to improve with the development of battery and hydrogen trains in the future.

Reducing the impact on city roads

Reduce traffic congestion to/from the Port

Traffic congestion to and from the Port of Fremantle, especially heavy vehicle movements, has been a long-standing issue for residents, businesses and local and state governments for many years.

Intermodal Group is playing an important role in assisting the State Government in helping reduce the number of heavy vehicle movements needed to transport containers for both import and export.

It is estimated that over a 12-month period and based on current rail freight services, Intermodal’s service has resulted in the reduction of the equivalent of 100,000 truck  journeys in and out of the port.
